1
Open Recheck and click on Settings in the left menu.
2
Select Refunds from the list of settings.
3
Enable one or more refund options based on what you want to offer.
- Original payment method: Refunds are issued to the same payment method the customer used at checkout.
- Store credits: Refunds are issued as store credit.
- Gift card: Refunds are issued as a Shopify gift card, so the value stays with your store.
Configuration
- When more than one option is enabled, customers can choose how they’d like to receive their refund.
-
If no option is enabled, refunds must be processed manually by your team.
In such cases, Recheck will automatically tag the order with
recheck-refund-requestedso your team can identify and follow up on those requests.
Show the refund method to customers
When only one refund method is enabled, you can choose whether customers see its label on the refund screen. Turn on “Show refund method to the customer” to display it. This has no effect when more than one method is enabled, since customers always see their choices then. Some brands hide the label when they’ve written their own refund copy in Translations and don’t want a duplicate line.Gift card
When Gift card is enabled and the customer picks it, Recheck issues a Shopify gift card for the refund amount instead of sending money back to their card. It’s off by default and available on every plan. You can set:- Expiry: how long the gift card stays valid, as a time period from when it’s issued (for example, 12 months). By default gift cards don’t expire.
- Code format: how the gift card code is generated. Choose your brand name plus a unique code, the customer’s first name plus a unique code, or a unique code on its own.
- Bonus: an optional percentage added on top of the refund, so a gift card is worth more than cash back (for example, a 110 gift card). The bonus is calculated on the net amount owed once the editing window closes, and is capped per order. When a bonus is set, refund fees don’t apply to gift card refunds.
recheck-giftcard-refund) so anyone looking at the order can see the balance was settled with a gift card. The customer receives their gift card through Shopify’s standard gift card email.
Refund fees
Refund fees let you deduct a fee from every refund Recheck issues. Turn on “Enable refund fees,” then set:- Fee type: a percentage (up to 100%) or a fixed amount.
- Fee value: the percentage or dollar amount to deduct.
- Apply fee to: order cancellations only, or cancellations and downgrades.
Store credit refunds only work for brands using Shopify’s new customer accounts and require setup through Shopify’s store credit functionality.
